In this 6 week intermediate/advanced Surface Decoration class, we go beyond the form and explore the many ways in which we decorate ceramics from greenware to glazing. We will dive into the many stages and techniques of working with clay. Techniques included but are not limited to: working with wet clay, slips, slip trailing, inlay, underglaze, engobes, stains, sgraffito, Mishima, transfers, with a special focus on glazing techniques beyond dip, brush and pour. This class is for intermediate/advanced students over age 18 who hope to advance their knowledge and understanding of all aspects of surface decoration from greenware to glazing.
This course meets once a week for 6 weeks on Mondays, January 5th - Feb 9th, from 9:30am-12:30 pm. Each week, you’ll also receive 4 hours of open studio time to practice and explore at your own pace outside of class. Most glazing supplies will be provided for work during class sessions.
